Opened on 27 November 1999, Wellington at long last has a museum of its own - a permanent place for its social and maritime history.
The Museum has over 95,000 items in its collection. Items range from 20th century shipping & machinery, through to social history & art. The Museum also has holds the Paine (Maori) Collection, and a full set of the Royal Crown Jewels - but only replicas of course.
